We’re willing to bet that most of you haven’t experienced a dry cut.

Let us tell you- when done correctly, it is everything

What’s the difference?

When hair is cut dry, there is no risk of: shrinkage *insert Seinfeld episode here*.

Hair’s elasticity increases when wet. This means that when pulled, it stretches more. When hair is cut wet, the hair is pulled taut. This can result in cutting too much off by accident. After it is dried, the hair can surprise you by shrinking to a point shorter than what was discussed in your consultation!

Ever had a cut where your stylist went way too short? This is likely why.

Even when cut correctly wet, by the most talented stylist, the hair can be unpredictable when it is dried due to the elasticity level. Throw in any kind of natural wave or curl pattern- and you have yourself a tricky situation to navigate.

You can cross your fingers and hope for the best, or you can get a dry cut and avoid all that stress.

If the hair is dried prior to cutting, you have an even playing field to begin with and have eliminated the stretching factor.

You have already set yourself up for a great cut!

When blow-drying, your stylist is able to feel where your natural part is, and where your hair wants to fall. This is a benefit as it gives your stylist time to get familiar with your texture and feel where any bulky areas may be. When performing a dry cut, your stylist will custom carve out areas to best compliment your hair texture and look you are going for.

How should I prepare for my dry cut?

Show up with dirty hair.

Your hair will be washed and blown out first.

If your hair is straight to begin with and you are also getting color, your stylist may want to begin with the cut.

Having a small collection (1-3 images) of a cut you like is helpful for your stylist. Sometimes, it might be a combination of cuts you see- you may like the bangs on one celebrity, and the general cut on a model. We are happy to fuse techniques to your liking.

How do I select good images for my cut?

Pick images close to your hair texture and face shape. Has someone ever told you that you look like a certain celebrity? Look at their style!

Sometimes a cut may look amazing on fine hair, and not work as well for thick hair. It’s important to remember that your personal cut will be custom to you and your hair type and will be an interpretation of the inspiration image you select.

Wait, what if I need help finding the right cut for me?

Not to worry, every appointment at Haus of Pretty comes standard with built in time for a consultation. We can discuss all your hair needs in a one-on-one setting and come up with a plan together.

Let us know how you like your dry cut!
